Federico Herrero (b. 1978 San Jose, Costa Rica). His work defies common classifications of painting, from painting expressionist canvases of his mental landscapes to completing unfinished pedestrian lines in the street, to painting pedestrian crossings inside the gallery, to luscious landscapes over walls, and world maps in swimming pools. He does not differentiate between the size of the brush, the kind of paint, and the type and size of the surface. His interest in paint resides in the basic act of painting: the application of coloured pigment over surfaces. Recent solo shows include Federico Herrero at Sies + Höke Galerie in Düsseldorf in 2005, Japanopera at Gallery Koyanagi in Tokyo in 2004 and Mental Landscapes at Galeria Juana de Aizpuru in Madrid in 2003. He is represented by Blow de la Barra in London. Federico Herrero lives and works in San Jose, Costa Rica.
